Together with their main diet, birds must be continuously supplied with grit due to their digestive system. Organic and inorganic ingredients help grind hard seeds in the bird’s gizzard and serve as an extra source of calcium, phosphorus, sodium and other minerals.

Coquina is crushed marine shell and represents an important source of calcium, phosphorus, sodium and other minerals. Coquina dissolves in the acidic environment of the gizzard; the mineral salts released can be easily absorbed by the bird’s body. Coquina is especially important during the breeding season to build strong eggshells and to maintain healthy bones and beaks in chicks and adult birds.

Limestone is obtained by grinding and then drying the mineral calcite. Limestone is rich in substances that support water–salt balance and promote better bone growth.

Red stone ensures proper function of the digestive tract in birds. Regular use of red stone leads to firmer droppings.

Ground Cambrian clay is needed to remove toxic substances that can accumulate in the bird’s body. In addition, the clay contains minerals, organic matter, iron oxides and other beneficial nutrients.

Shredded cedar nut shell contains a range of micro- and macronutrients. The shell also has adsorptive properties.

Charcoal helps regulate acidity in the birds’ gizzard; its use helps prevent gastrointestinal diseases. Because of its high porosity, charcoal can remove toxic substances from the body.
